Not to mention The Towering Inferno

Speaking of former running backs turned sub-par actors, Jim Brown could act circles around this wife-butchering buffoon. Seriously. And Jim wasn't that good.

Yeah, but when you're in a movie and you're surrounded by talent such as Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Telly Savalas, and Charles Bronson, that's some pretty good acting talent right there.
The only footballer-turned-actor that may have been able to pull that off is Fred Dryer.

What are y'all talking about, any movie guru worth his salt will tell you that the former Oakland Raider, John Matuszak as "Sloth" in Goonies was the greatest ex-football acting role of all time. Let us not forget those classic scenes from Little House on The Prairie by Merlin Olsen.

As far as thespian goes, I heard OJ didn't eat no....

Don't forget his moving portrayal of a caveman in the epic "Caveman" starring Ringo Starr, Dennis Quaid and Shelley Long. Although Ringo made out pretty well, I think thats where he met Barbara Bach.

Why yes, I stand corrected. Matuszak in Caveman was indeed excellent.
Didn't Ringo wake up with a giant bug humping his face in that movie?
I also vaguely remember Dick Butkus making an appearance on the 6 million dollar man.

I also remember Butkis hawking grills that burn newspaper.

I will admit that Terry Bradshaw did make me laugh occasionally in Cannonball Run

him and Mel Tillis driving around shi*faced for the whole movie. priceless. As far as sports cameos goes, Kareem abdul Jabbar grabbing the little kid in Airplane is one of the funniest things ever

That was funny, when they drug Kareem out and he was wearing his goggles and shorts.
"Excuse me ma'am, I speak jive." Classic movie.

But OJ was more than just an athlete turned actor, he really took his trade seriously. You may recall that he even purchased his own set of US Navy SEAL knives to have for practice and for use in the TV series that was never made. I don't see JB buying his own knives...

btw: did JB do much outside of the demolition sprint in the dirty dozen? (I seem to recall a couple of shaft like roles and maybe a guest appearance on Julie or something.) Though he appears to be be doing some good work in the area of gangs and street violence.

100 Rifles

He actually gets busy with Raquel Welch. That alone earns him 1,000,000 bonus points. I think OJ was trying to catch up by marrying Nicole. Nice try, but not even close.

thanks sdh; I forgot about 100 rifles!!!

I am rushing right to netflix...I will use it as a placeholder to signal that it is time to re-load my queue.

and we shouldn't leave out The Undefeated (John Wayne), which was Merlin's first big role, if not first role period. It also "starred" the Rams QB Roman Gabriel. Bascially Merlin and Roman were in a fight scene or two...
